Carnival is on Saturday 20th July 2019
Welcome to Porthcawl Buckaneers Carnival 2019. Our theme ‘Discovery of the year’ has provided the community of Porthcawl and surrounding areas to be very inventive in their design. This year is the 20th year that Owens Road Services, Llanelli have provided lorries and drivers for the floats. This is a huge commitment and we thank them for their assistance for the past and hopefully for the future!!!We are extremely pleased that we have two floats from Pyle, Universal Academy of Art and Pyle British Legion. We have a large number of walking groups all joining in to enjoy the spectacle of the carnival. Every year we are supported by the RNLI, Coastguard, Porthcawl Fire Service, National Coastal Institutewho lead out the carnival. The police have been instrumental in ensuring the carnival procession moves as a convoy and we welcome Police Sergeant Rees to his first Carnival in charge!!!. Without the support of the local business community the carnival would be difficult to finance and we thank them for their continuing support. Our final thanks got to the public of Porthcawl who get involved in becoming part of this the largest community event in Porthcawl and supporting the local causes that we donate the funds collected on the day.
Its Carnival day!
What a pleasure it is every year to see how well our community comes together to deliver a fun packed day for all. I know from my own experience when building a float in 2017 just how rewarding it can be, and equally just how hard Kerry Marlow and his team work to ensure our Carnival goes ahead every year, with thousands of pounds raised for local good causes. Hopefully we will be blessed with good weather and a great time will be had by all. My special thanks go to all involved and especially to our emergency services and other support agencies without whom we would not be able to enjoy our day. Have fun everyone. Description of the project:
We plan to extend Porthcawl RFC to be able to increase the size and amount of changing rooms at the club
Why is this project needed?
After many years of developing and investing in rugby at Porthcawl RFC we are now in the position where we have 13 teams playing every week - Under 7s through to a Youth, 2nd XV and Senior team. This is a fantastic achievement for a small town.
However this has meant that issues have arisen with adult/youth players having to use the changing rooms at the same time. Which (as we are more than aware)cannot happen due to WRU guidelines.
We have tried to stagger kick off times to accommodate fixtures so that no-one misses out on game time. This has proved impossible at times where away teams cannot (understandably) change their plans and has meant games have had to becancelled to re-arranged.
As a club we decided to apply for planning permission to extend the current changing facilities to increase the size and amount of teams we can accommodate. This is the biggest project the Club has undertaken in over 30 years but is the only option we could take to continue to encourage participation of rugby.
The continued improvement and investment in the club aims to improve the experience for regular players as well as attracting new players to the game.
